Huggi is a unique dish crafted during the celestial phase of Dhanur Masa, marking the sun’s journey through Sagittarius from mid-December to mid-January. This culinary delight is often accompanied by a flavorful tamarind curry known as Gojju, enhancing its delectable and mouth-watering appeal.

Huggi:

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 12 minutes
Servings: 5 people

Ingredients:

Preparation Steps:

  1. Wash rice and green gram thoroughly.

Cooking Steps:

  1. Combine the ingredients, cook for about 12 minutes or until the rice is soft

Your Huggi is ready!

Bajji:

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 5 people

Ingredients:

Preparation Steps:

  1. Chop chillies, ginger, and curry leaves into small pieces.
  2. Soak tamarind in water for 5 minutes, then squeeze to extract pulp.

Cooking Steps:

  1. In a vessel, boil tamarind pulp, jaggery, and salt for 3 minutes.
  2. For tempering, use a small, deep pan to roast mustard seeds, split black gram, and curry leaves until they sizzle. Take care not to burn the seeds. Add chopped green chillies, ginger and roast for a minute.
  3. Add the tempering to the bajji mix.
